Jorgen Randers is professor of policy
analysis at the Norwegian School of
Management, where he teaches
scenario analysis and corporate social responsibility. He was
formerly President of the Norwegian School of Management 1981 – 89,
and Deputy Director-general of WWF International (World Wide
Fund for Nature) in Switzerland 1994 – 99.
Randers received his Ph.D. from the Sloan School of Management.
He has authored a number of books and scientific papers, including “The
Limits to Growth” (1972) and “Limits to Growth – The
30 Year Update” (2004). His research interests include:
futures research, using system dynamics and scenario planning
to study the time development in systems, from global ecological
footprint via industry sectors to concrete businesses like the
global tankship market; the global, national and corporate move
towards increased environmental and social sustainability; and
the corporate responsibility for contributing towards sustainability.
He is a core faculty member of The Prince of Wales’
Business
and the Environment Programme, a weeklong seminar for senior
managers in multinational companies run four times a year by
Cambridge University. Randers is a non-executive member of a
number of corporate boards, including Tomra ASA in Oslo and the “sustainability
councils” of the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan,
and British Telecom in London, and is a member of the boards
of WWF in Norway and in Switzerland.
