David A. Dornfeld is
Professor of Mechanical Engineering, the Will C. Hall Family Chair in Engineering, and the
Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary
Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Dornfeld's expertise is in green manufacturing processes and systems, sustainable
manufacturing, and precision manufacturing focusing on micro-scale, and nano and sub-nano processes.
His research areas also include flexible manufacturing systems, signal processing and
intelligent sensors for untended manufacturing.
Dave is Director of Berkeley's Laboratory for Manufacturing and Sustainability ("LMAS"), where they
model sustainable, environmentally-conscious manufacturing processes and systems. Research
at LMAS is concerned with the analysis and improvement of manufacturing processes and the development of
tools to analyze sustainability.
Professor Dornfeld received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of
Wisconsin - Madison. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the
Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the European Society for Precision Engineering and
Nanotechnology, among others.
