INVESTMENT CLASSES
Investors need a clear, simple way to consider the environmental attractiveness of a prospective investment, as well as to understand how "clean" a portfolio of investments is.
ECG developed a unique set of CLEAN Investment Classes to categorize technologies according to the
relative environmental benefits. This classification is based on a quantitative and qualitative
analysis using our CLEAN Framework and other information. We use this metric to classify
the realized and potential environmental impact of each portfolio company in the PCG CalPERS
Clean Energy and Technology Program. By looking at the distribution of portfolio companies across the five CLEAN Investment Classes, an
investor is able to understand at a high level how clean the portfolio is.
ECG used this framework in the pioneering CalPERS AIM Clean Energy & Technology Program 2008
Environmental Measurement Results Report. Download the Report in Adobe PDF format.
